The best powder
This Laura Mercier Candleglow Sheer Perfecting Powder, £32, does something rather magical to skin, evening it out and lighting it up - but without it looking like you're wearing any make-up at all. Compliments will fly.
The best highlighter
Because nothing, but NOTHING, brightens like the clickety-click-click of a starry YSL Touche Eclat, £25.50.
And Trish McEvoy Instant Eye Lift, £31, delivers exactly that. Funnily enough.
The best concealer
We're having a bit of a love-in with NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer, £23, which is dense and creamy and smoother than an Italian waiter. (Unlike the latter, it doesn't slide off halfway through the night.)
Highly commended: MAC Studio
MAC Studio Fix Perfecting Stick, £22, is the brand's bestselling foundation in a stick. No mess, no fuss: just a slip-it-in-your-pocket pencil of pore-perfecting, redness- eliminating, spot-concealing wonder.
The best foundation
Expect skin to fall hard for La Mer The Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation SPF 20, £80, which melts in like a dream and builds up beautifully. Smells expensive because it is.
Highly commended: Giorgio Armani
Giorgio Armani Power Fabric Longwear High Cover Foundation SPF 25, £40, is the most forgiving, the most loyal and the most protective formula in all the land.
Highly commended: Bobbi Brown
Best beauty makeup brushes
The sheer Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Cushion Compact SPF 35, £36, makes skin dewier than a woodland nymph's.
The best tinted moisturiser
These Clinique BIY (Blend It Yourself) Pigment Drops, £25, are a bit of a game-changer. Shake well, then mix into your moisturiser - and hey presto! A more flattering face awaits.
Highly commended: Origins
Origins VitaZing Sheer Tint Release, £29, goes on like a normal day cream, then soft-focuses the skin. Great for when you can't be arsed with a full face of foundation. Or if you're lazy, like us.
The best primer
Erborian Pink Perfect Crème, £36, is your friend when skin is misbehaving. It will make your complexion tighter, rosier, glowier AND poreless. We've no idea how - we're more interested in our fabulous new skin, tbh.
Sisley make-up brushes, from #33, not only look the part, but they contain synthetic bristles to keep skin clean.
Zoeva brushes, from £8, are well priced and, most importantly, PINK. We're fans.
The best lipstick
The new Lancôme Juicy Shakers Matte, £19.50, are easy-peasy, non-sheeny perfection and we won't hear otherwise.
The Dolce &, Gabbana Miss Sicily Lipstick £25, is buttery and glossy and smells of vanilla. Oh, and it doesn't flake. Live happily ever after.
The best lipbalm
The tingle is still there, and so is the minty taste. But now there's a choice of colours (berry, nude, pink), and we can't believe we didn't think of it first. So hooray for Eve Lom Tinted Kiss Mix, £18, because there's no other balm we'd rather smear on our lips...
Highly commended: Eos lipbalm
...though we are slightly partial to an all-natural Eos lipbalm, £7.
The best bronzer
Winner: Charlotte Tilbury
Charlotte Tilbury Film Star Bronze &, Glow, £49, is quite the showstealer. There's a shimmering bronzer to 'sculpt' and a nude highlighter to, um, 'highlight' - or you could take a nice fat brush, swirl it around and dust on cheekbones.
The best brow tool
Eyeko Brow Gel, £18, is a light tint that gives a boyish, Brooke Shields situation.
Suqqu Eyebrow Liquid Pen, £20, is like a felt tip for your brows.
The best lipgloss
Life's better with Chanel's rouge Coco Gloss, £26. Non-sticky, non-gloopy, full of pigment (like that cheerful orange), it's so comfy you forget it's on. Your lipsticks will be jealous.
The best mascara
Winner: Christian Louboutin
The new Christian Louboutin Les Yeux Noirs Mascara, £55, is a triumph, from that weighty fluted case and those super-bendy bristles to the deepest, darkest formula there ever was. Lashes have never looked so spellbinding.
Highly commended: Benefit
Best of beauty makeup
Who doesn't love the subtlety of Benefit Rollerlash, £20?
Christian Louboutin Les Yeux Noirs Mascara is available from selfridges.com
The best nail polish
Essie Treat, Love &, Colour polishes: listen - can you hear a sigh of relief? That's your nails. They've heard that these polishes, £9, give all the love of a base coat with the chip-proof power of a top coat. (They're also quite taken by those sugared- almond shades.)
The best blusher
Sneaky Clarins Skin Illusion Blush, £16. That cap is more than just joyful to look at - it swivels to reveal a blusher INSIDE the lid, plus a sponge to apply. Gives a perky flush, and it's terribly pretty too.
Clarins Skin Illusion Blush is available from clarins.co.uk
The best eyeshadow
This Burberry Smoke &, Sculpt Pen in Almond, £23, isn't really an eyeshadow at all. It's a stick of hazy, shadowy smudginess - so it blends perfectly beneath lashes, and makes eyes sexy and doe-like. Which is what we all want, isn't it?
The best makeup tool
Beautyblender Micro Minis, £22 for four, are positively tiddly, but their power is mighty. No corner of the eye and no crease of the nose is beyond their reach - and they are just so pleasing to look at.
Beautyblender Micro Minis are available from selfridges.com
