At the Centre of Excellence for Hair, Beauty, Nails and Media Makeup we have recently refurbished contemporary facilities, including four hairdressing salons, four beauty treatment rooms and a state of the art media make up studio. Completion of Level 2 in the subject, plus a minimum of grade A*-D in English and Maths. You will also need to attend a trade test and an admissions interview.
A minimum of 4 A* –, D GCSE subject grades or equivalent, including English Language and Maths.
A minimum of 4 A* –, E GCSE subject grades or equivalent, including English Language and Maths.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However you will need a keen interest in this subject and have a good level of English and Maths.
What could these courses lead on to?
At Riverside College you can progress through the levels from entry level to level 3. By achieving qualifications in Hair, Beauty, Nails and Media Makeup you will be able to access a wide range of employment opportunities and apprenticeships with local, national and global employers. Following the level 3 courses you could enter employment at a higher technical level such as a Senior Stylist. Many students also progress from level 3 on to employment on board Cruise ships or choose to study the next level of their discipline such as the Special Effects Makeup and Salon Management.

Students studying on the Nails and Media Makeup courses at Riverside College have been celebrating after placing first and second in the heats of the WorldSkills UK competition.
Lauren Smith, from St Helens was thrilled when she came first in her category, the talented student has just completed the Level 3 in Media Makeup and her creation amazed the judges.
Katy Sullivan, from Widnes competed in the Nail Art competition and received silver for her designs. She had to create an image using the theme ‘Ancient Civilisations’ and chose to use geisha to style her designs on.

Make up students help to set world record with The Very Big Catwalk
Sixty talented students from the Hair and Media Makeup course at Riverside College supported tutor, Ruth Marcella and her company Orchid Blush as the makeup artists for The Very Big Catwalk, a record breaking catwalk show, which took place at the Pier Head, Liverpool.
Ruth was the Chief Makeup Artist at the huge event, which was organised by the Liverpool Culture Company and broke the Guinness World Record by having the most models ever on a catwalk.
The Riverside students were split into two teams and not only had the opportunity to show off their creative talents with editorial, catwalk, fashion and body art make up but they also got to take part in the world record attempt by walking on the catwalk themselves.
