Dear Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation, Makeup beauty.

I really wanted to love you. I really tried to make it work, but today I realized I have to let you go.

When we first entered each other’s lives, I had stars in my eyes. I’,d heard what everyone had to say about you, and they were nothing but great things. So I grabbed my favorite buffing brush as of late and got to work.

Oh, my god. I couldn’,t believe it —, you were so easy to blend, to build, and your finish was so even and just… perfect. I’,ve never seen myself with so few freckles, but then again, I don’,t generally go for fuller coverage foundations like you.

As I went on with the rest of my makeup, I kept remarking at how amazing my base looked. It seemed like we were quite a match, but there’,s something you should know…, I don’t really fall easily, or ever at all. I can’t help but anticipate disaster.

While we seemed to be compatible on so many levels, you were a few shades too dark for me from the get-go. Love can require some sacrifice, and I understood that.

So we went out into the world together, and I was feeling like a total boss.

Eventually, the dream started to fade and reality began to set in. A few hours after we left, I looked in the mirror, and you separated across my skin the way oil beads up around water. It didn’,t help that you weren’t quite my shade, which just exacerbated the visibility of our impending separation.

For me, these MAC Fashion Pack Lipsticks are a reminder that MAC still makes some of the best lipsticks around, in my opinion. MAC is still my first stop when I want a new lipstick because of their wide range of colors, and because some of their formulas, like Amplified and Frost, are amazing.

Available in-store June 23 through July 28, 2016

“,Lead the way with a new wave of front-row worthy hues. Fuchsia, violet, emerald, deepest plum, midnight…,ready to wear, any way we dare! So, be a doll and show us how — the Fashion Pack is always in the know.”, -MAC

The four lipsticks in the launch —, Pressed &, Ready (a soft whitened nude with a Lustre finish), Aim For Gorgeous (a bright fuchsia with a Matte finish), By Special Order (a deep reddened fuchsia with an Amplified finish) and Stylist’,s Tip (a deep violet with an Amplified finish) —, are all incredibly smooth and pigmented, and the darker colors absolutely LAST.

I applied Stylist’,s Tip one morning before work, and when I got home at the end of the day, it looked good! —, and this was with my near-constant eating and drinking, and without a single touchup.

And photos of me wearing them…,

Alright…,Pressed &, Ready is very light, but it feels smooth and comfortable. I was tempted to doctor it up with a brown lip liner but thought that would be against my ethical duties as a beauty blogger, LOL.

This one just doesn’,t quite work for me, but it is a pretty pink-toned nude.

Another day, another MAC release!

While the last MAC collection I reviewed was full of soft, sparkly shadows, the new MAC Fashion Pack collection, which arrives online June 9, 2016 and in stores June 23 through July 28, has bangin’, bold, vibrant colors.

We usually get lots of pastels this time of year, so these deep purples and saturated pinks are a nice departure.

Here’,s a look at the Runway Worthy Eye Shadow x 9 and the Fluidline Pens from the collection! Stay tuned for the lipsticks coming up next.

First up, the Runway Worthy Eye Shadow x 9 ($32), a mostly cool-toned palette with purple, pink, gray and mauve tones.

MAC Runway Worthy Eye Shadow x 9 shades

Runway Worthy (soft frosty white –, Veluxe Pearl)

Frock Talk (blackened cherry –, Veluxe Pearl)

Paradise Island (soft warm pink –, Satin)

Available in Petite (frosty raspberry –, Velvet)

Snappy Style (deepened black plum –, Satin)

Hypnotizing (frosted greyed mauve –, Frost)

Zip Me Up (mid-tone violet –, Satin)

Nice Fit (blackened blackberry –, Frost)

Most of the shadows are Satins or Frosts, but there is a smile-inducing glittery pink right in the middle called Available in Petite.

Here’,s a comparison between the Runway Worthy palette and a single MAC Eye Shadow…,

I’,m often inspired by art when I get ready in the morning —, and not always modern art, à la Andy Warhol or iconic images of Twiggy —, but sometimes, like during the deepest and darkest parts of winter, I’,ll think of a novel or a particular Renaissance painting and try to recreate the spirit of the work or, if it’,s a portrait, the glow surrounding the subject.

Sometimes with Laura Mercier I think of impressionist paintings, and it’,s not hard to see similarities between some of Laura Mercier’,s muted greens, steel blues and rich sienna browns and a color palette used by Claude Monet, right?

That’,s perfect for me, as I love that romantic flush on the faces of so many impressionistic heroines. If you gaze at a Renior, you’,re sure to see a glowing rose pink, and when my skin is at its most sallow or pale during the winter months, that’,s the look I most like to create with my blush.

To me it is such a mood- and energy-boosting color…, It makes me think of a summer sunset on the beach, when the sun is an orange ball of fire and everything looks magically better in its warm light.

Since orange-toned makeup is my favorite to wear at this time of the year, today I thought I’d tell you about some of my favorite products in this fun, energetic hue, including a couple of non-makeup extras.

Tom Ford Lip Color Matte in Flame ($52)

I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love this lipstick. I don’t know if it’s because it’s called ‘Flame’ (apparently, I have a thing for makeup products whose names evoke fire or places in North Africa …, – don’t ask), or because I got it last time I visited my favorite city in the world (AKA the City by the Bay), or because of its perfect point of red-orange that I like to wear no matter the season or time of the day… All I know is that I love it with my heart and soul, and if I had to keep only one lipstick out of my entire collection (oh gawd, the thought of giving up all my lipsticks but one is beyond horrifying… Why did I even go there?!), it would most likely be this one.

Despite having a bomb staying power, it’s very comfortable on the lips and doesn’t dry them out…

Did I mention that I LOVE it?

Maybelline Color Sensational The Creamy Mattes in Craving Coral ($7.99)
